MY STORY
"Father Marker transforms blank concrete into vibrant wildlife scenes—part nature lover, part spray-paint savant, he's on a mission to turn city walls into untamed stories."
Tyson Savanah is a Mornington Peninsula-based artist, designer and sculptor that goes by the name, Father Marker.
With a passion for art, design and illustration (and armed with a Bachelor of Industrial Design (honours) from RMIT), Father Marker spawned in 2018 following the birth of his twin daughters.
My work flows between client-directed projects and my more imaginative personal work. Projects include council and privately commissioned murals, freelance illustration work, logo & mascot design, merchandise, sign writing, vehicle wraps and everything in between.
I draw inspiration from many sources with an affinity for native Australian flora and fauna, surrealism, adventure, myth and folklore. Large murals or small canvases: he uses a variety of mediums such as digital, spray, brushes, acrylic and ink and is able to adopt many different styles. My work shows a strong sense of design combined with energetic colour palettes, humour and an eye for detail. I continue to research and constantly create new forms of expression through different media, drawing and sculpture.
I was the successfully appointed artist of 2 of 5 mural sites for the Mornington Peninsula Shires Anti-Graffiti EOI Project in 2021/22, trumping over 200 applications from other responding artists and again for the Bentons Square Community Centre (Mornington) EOI mural project in 2021. He has also been successful in the Merribek city council “RenuWall” program EOI and The Merri Creek Art trail in 2024. Since then, he has received council-based grants to mentor young emerging artists on the Mornington Peninsula and develop mural painting workshops.
Since 2018, I’ve been actively creating public art across Victoria, with a strong focus on murals that are not only visually engaging but also deeply connected to local stories and communities. Highlights include being selected for two of the five mural sites in the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Anti-Graffiti EOI Project in 2021–22 as well as the Bentons Square Community Centre mural project in the same year. More recently, I’ve contributed to the Merribek City Council’s RenuWall program and the Merri Creek Art Trail in 2024. These public artworks celebrate the multiculturalism of Fawkner and species and food chains found along Merri Creek respectively. Beyond my own projects, I’ve also received council-supported grants to mentor emerging artists and facilitate community mural mentorships on the Mornington Peninsula and lead groups of youths creating public artwork with The Salvos Youth Services and Frankston Youth Services further reinforcing my commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and community-driven creativity.
Finally, I have mentored and created murals for primary and secondary schools with students assisting and getting a first hand experience in creating large format art. Those schools include, Boneo Primary School, Mornington Park PS Sorrento PS, Coburg North PS and The Australian International Academy (senior campus)
I take pride in reflecting the thoughts and voices of local communities through thoughtful research, active community engagement, and a collaborative approach to design. Each mural I create is site-specific and conceptually tailored to the space—designed not only to beautify but to enrich, honour, and celebrate the stories of the people who move through and belong to that place.
