Amato Automotive Mural– Seaford

I was approached by Adrian and Michelle Amato to create a custom mural for the new roller door of their workshop, Amato Automotive, located in Seaford. Adrian, a passionate car enthusiast and talented mechanic, had one clear vision for the artwork: his dream car—a 1967 Holden Monaro Coupe in a striking emerald peacock green.

While I don’t typically paint vehicles, I was excited by the challenge and honoured to bring a personal symbol of Adrian’s passion to life in a large-scale public format. The roller door itself presented unique difficulties; its corrugated, shifting surface made it one of the trickiest canvases I’ve worked on to date. Maintaining form, depth, and proportion across a surface that literally moves was both a technical and artistic exercise in adaptability.

I spent time studying the Monaro’s lines, reflecting its power and elegance while also leaning into my more expressive, stylised approach. Capturing the car's deep metallic tone, curvature, and chrome details required a mix of control and freedom—balancing realism with the movement and texture that define my work.

The result is a bold, dynamic mural that reflects not only Adrian’s love for classic Australian muscle cars but also the personality of the business itself: hands-on, passionate, and proudly local.

This project sparked a new interest in incorporating more 3D forms and manufactured objects into my future works, pushing the boundary between fine art, commercial surfaces, and design. I'm proud of the final result and grateful to Adrian and Michelle for trusting me with such a personal piece.
