“School Mascots”
“School Mascots” is a commissioned mural created for Coburg North Primary School (CNPS), initiated by Principal Monika as part of a broader effort to uplift school morale and foster a sense of pride and unity across the student body. The mural was designed to complement the school’s newly developed outdoor assembly area and adjoining handball courts, transforming an otherwise neutral wall into a bold and spirited backdrop for daily activities and special events.
Serving as both a visual centrepiece and a functional setting, the mural plays a key role during school sports days, house gatherings, and assemblies. The artwork features each of the school's house mascots, carefully rendered in a photorealistic style with touches of characterisation and dynamic movement. These elements were included to energise the space and give each mascot a sense of personality that students could identify with and rally behind.
Each mascot is depicted in its respective house colour, reinforcing house identities and school spirit. By anchoring the design in the visual language of school pride, the mural strengthens a shared sense of belonging among students and staff, making it a living symbol of community and collaboration.
Positioned prominently in the school’s common outdoor area, “School Mascots” not only enhances the physical environment but also reflects the values of teamwork, encouragement, and healthy competition. It was a privilege to contribute to a project that brings vibrancy, meaning, and school identity to such a well-used and well-loved space.
